The challenge with any addition to an iconic building is to respect the historic architecture while creating something of its own era. Our entry into the design competition sponsored by a small theater in eastern Pennsylvania proposed making use of the existing palette of materials while rearranging them into a more dynamic composition. After passing through a new vestibule, theatergoers enter into a new lobby space that connects seamlessly with the historic lobby that is enlarged by removing the eastern balcony stair as well as the interior doors of the current entry vestibule.
